help Id model/year of this vintage ADC cartridge
Hey everyone.
Anybody would be so kind to let me know the model/year of this old ADC cartridge. I've checked QLM but so far I can not find any other ADC cartridge in red color. Chances are the stylus is not original and that only makes it more complicated to locate the right information for this cartridge.
The headshell is very nice. It seems to be made of aluminum, and it says "korea" inside.
A couple of pictures:
Y'all have a good Thursday!

Re: help Id model/year of this vintage ADC cartridge
By the closed mounting holes, I'd say it's a 1981-1985 model ADC. You'd have to get an ohmmeter and check the coils for cart identity. 820 ohms, or 350 ohms? That's a $5 headshell. I have no idea why someone drilled 2 holes ahead of the mounting slots….

At the very high risk of being wrong... an ADC100??

There is a listing in the VE database, but the instruction sheet is temporarily unavailable due to some function maintenance.

Re: help Id model/year of this vintage ADC cartridge
The mounting holes are much farther forward than usual for ADC, and the holes drilled in the headshell may have been neccessary to align the cartridge. The cartridge is also unusual in having ADC cast into the front of the mounting (and in being red). Even odder, the holes in the mount are threaded, which makes me wonder if some owner drilled them and then just ran screws in. I wonder if it wasn't originally part of a package with some turntable, and mounted by sliding in - which would explain the grooves on the side to help grip. Something suggests Garrard to me, but was Garrard even around by then?

Apologies that this may not be the most helpful, but a quick google image search for "ADC slide mount" brought up this:
I cannot for the life of me think which arm has this slide in fitting though as most I've seen are a slide in carrier for a standard cartridge with contacts on the top for connection #-o
As for Garrard, there is this, but I'm not sure why the cartridge design would help

The Q line and K line for ADC came out in around 1972-73. I have a product line card, and colors were used like red and blue. But the slide mount is news to me!
I have a 1982 ADC cartridge with the tapped holes in the mount. But it isn't red.
You'll still need to take a dc resistance reading, or inductance reading, to know what cartridge that is, and which styli are the best fits.

From a distance, looks very similar. But a close look shows it isn't the same:

You're right. The holes are a good bit further forward than standard ADC mounts. But drilling holes? I'm pretty good at predicting alignment, and getting it dialed in. But, I wouldn't trust my skills enough to drill holes in the headshell. I have filed the slots longer by 2-3 mm, though for several cartridges.

First of all let me thank y'all guys for taking the time and comment on this one. I'm very surprised and to be honest I did not expect this ADC cartridge would be such a tough cookie :)

I don't think this one's the headshell you think it is. Actually, when I got it I wanted to move back the cartridge as I am not used to the stylus to go right on the very tip of the headshell level. So I happened to inspect carefully the headshell and those two holes are 100% original like in the old Sanyo/Otto turntables from the mid 70's (see the picture of the TP-1000 headshell below).
Back to the cartridge, the fact of this one being red and having the "closed" holes makes this one such a mystery. Unfortunately I don't have a ohmmeter to check the cartridge myself so I'll have to wait until some trace of info turns up.
What I know is the fact that I like a lot how this thing sounds.
Thanks again and hope you all will have a good Friday! :)

If you look at that Sanyo headshell, you couldn't really mount a cartridge as the holes are too far apart.

Re: help Id model/year of this vintage ADC cartridge
That headshell that the OP has, the one made in Korea, is a $5-$7 headshell. I've got a bunch of them. Nothing wrong with that. They're very "hack-able." I've modified several so I could get carts to slide forward to achieve a Lofgren B alignment. But one "telltale" is the locking pin on the base. I've had to file it and smooth it so it wouldn't grind up the slot in my arm's locking collar. But those 2 holes were added by the previous owner.
Zoom in on that pin. It has sharp edges:
Here is one I filed off the leading edge "brow" to fit a long cartridge. It wasn't necessary for this Super OM, but it was available for the cartridge. I think I had an AT11 in it.
